No More Dentists? Gel Regenerates Teeth

Dentist_1209024c
A new peptide, in gel or film form, allows cells inside teeth to regenerate inside the mouth within a month. Dentists will not have to do any more drilling, thanks to this innovative technology.

"It's not like toothpaste," which prevent cavities, said Nadia Benkirane-Jessel, a scientist at the Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale and a co-author of a recent paper. "Here we are really trying to control cavities (after they develop)." The gel or thin film contains a peptide known as MSH, or melanocyte-stimulating hormone.

It could make trips to the dentist much more enjoyable, with less pain and discomfort. It also avoids crowns after a cavity is filled. Pow!

Wyclef Jean's Wife Provides Haiti With Housing

Wyclef-wife-finds-nude-photo-of-manager-on-phone-500x403
More than three months after the January 12th earthquake, over 1 million Haitians still live in tents. With the rainy season approaching, Yele Haiti has taken a big step towards supplying housing for the people of Haiti. Spearheaded by Wyclef Jean's wife, temporary homes are being built to provide tenants with a dry and warm place to live.

The units are made of wood and cement with metal roofs and last several years, or until permanent housing becomes available. The temporary homes can also house up to six people, as they are 12 feet by 12 feet in size. Women and children will be the first ones to live in the facilities.

“They’re getting wet from the hard rains. The temporary houses have been tested and keep out rain, even on days and nights when it rains nonstop," says Claudinette. "“What we take for granted is so important to everyone."

Twelve-Year-Old Philanthropist Walks Across the Country to Benefit Homeless Kids

11yearoldfinisheswalkdcraiseawarenessbflwfw47dtrl
Zach Bonner is not your average twelve-year-old boy. In fact, he is a rather unique child. As part of a journey to help millions of homeless kids in the country, he began a 2,500-mile "March Across America" in March. The mission will end in September. Marching five hours per day for 178 days, his journey from Tampa to Los Angeles is truly inspiring.

"'March Across America,' I hope, will give voice to the millions of kids that do not have one. If it only helps one child, it will be completely worth it." Philanthropy became the primary focus of his life when he was six-years-old. After a hurricane hit his hometown of Tampa, he felt compelled to deliver water and supplies to his neighbors in a little red wagon. In 2005, he founded the nonprofit Little Red Wagon Foundation to help underprivileged children and to build awareness among neighborhoods.
